The Ashmoor Sports Centre is currently looking to initiate a GP Referral Scheme for the local community South Dartmoor Academy serves. The scheme aims to provide the community South Dartmoor Academy serves with the opportunity to improve their health, fitness, and well-being through a high quality Exercise Referral Scheme. The Ashmoor GP Referral Scheme will work in partnership with local GP surgeries to treat a multitude of medical conditions through exercise, promote the importance of fitness in a healthy lifestyle and general well-being, provide an educational experience that will motivate long term change, and provide a social outlet for those community members who may otherwise feel isolated. Alex makes his debut for England's CP Football Development Squad
16/09/13 - Chris Daniel
We are delighted to announce that South Dartmoor Community College Year 11 student Alex Woodgates made his debut for England's CP Football Development Squad in the home nation's championships last weekend.
Ashburton based Alex was one of just 14 players invited to Lilleshall for the 4-day tournament, and featured in both games – a 1-1 draw against the Republic of Ireland and a 2-2 draw against Scotland. Scotland beat Ireland 1-0 in the other match to win the series.
For Alex, this international recognition is a reward for countless hours of hard work and dedication to his sport, and is the next step for Alex as he sets his sights on the Olympic Games in 2016.
Alex is sponsored by the Ashmoor Sports Centre, the South Dartmoor owned and operated Community Sports Centre, through the Ashmoor Talented Athlete Sponsorship Scheme, which gives support to athletes across Teignbridge and South Devon who have the potential to achieve national recognition. For more information on the scheme please contact Chris Daniel (Community Sports Development Manager).
